SDCC 2025 – Quick Interview with the G.I. Joe Design Team

As we get back in the saddle here after last week’s San Diego Comic Con 2025, we had some time to type out our interview with the G.I. Joe Design Team.  Hey maybe I should get one of those video recording things everyone has.  Lenny and Tony kindly gave their time to answer a few questions.  Now, this is not our normal thing so we didn’t go hard into issues with the brand or specifics on figures.  Tried to keep it light and a bit more general focused.  They did these all day, Lenny’s voice was gone, so I’m sure there are tons of videos and such floating around if you need that.  Read on to check out our quick ~10 minute chat with the team after the break!

HissTank: First off, everything looks great, been all in, still all in after this (reveals), so keep it going.

Lenny & Tony: Thank you, thank you.

HissTank: G.I. Joe Teams – Adventure Team, G.I. Joe Extreme, Sgt. Savage, etc. Are they available to you?

Lenny: Yes.

HissTank: Do you want to do them?

Lenny: Yes.

HissTank: Would they be branded or worked in and we know who they are?

Lenny: Depends on the story line for the year. I want them to be branded.

HissTank: So you would use the logo and the names and all that?

Lenny: Yeah yeah. I think it’s more fun that way, especially if we do it retro card backs. If it’s in Classified you get something more like Slice and Dice.

Tony: If it’s up to me and Lenny it’s everything, everywhere, all at once. Unfortunately there is a thing called time, and we can’t get to it all right now, but we want to.

HissTank: Some folks were wondering if there were any parts of the brand like the old school Joe stuff were off the table.

Lenny: Most of it is on the table.

HissTank: Now we know you can’t answer this specifically but – more plans for flying vehicles – Firebat, FANG etc.

Lenny: Nothing specific, but YES. What’s exciting is figuring out how to do it. What’s a Firebat going to look like in Classified.

HissTank: Any plans for future cartoon mini-series or Sunbow two-parters to have a running theme, kinda like how MASS is getting it now?

Lenny: In the brainstorming process for what to do for the year, it comes up a lot. So yes. When, not sure. Just depends on how it rolls out for planning. Theming stuff is always a a good thing to do, gives people something to rally around.

HissTank: Go buy everything with that logo on it.

Lenny: Right.

HissTank: Comic Themes – Stalker Snake Eyes Tommy 3 pack from 25th, similar concepts. Actually pulling from that specific lore.

Lenny & Tony: Yes! (Seemed excited)

HissTank: Even though we’ve had 10 Snake Eyes, now we want that Snake Eyes.

Lenny: Yes, because it’s a very different Snake Eyes.

Tony: The bucket hat!

HissTank: Any plans for animated anything, show, or social reels, similar to what was done in the Cold Slither concert last night, but Classified specific.

Lenny: Nothing that we can talk to right now, but it would be exciting.

HissTank: I think people are itching for Classified media, of any kind. 2000s style – Here’s a toyline, then a TV show, then a comic, now do it all again next year. Energon is great, but Classified specific stuff.

Lenny: I would say, Energon Universe, even before it was officially Energon Universe, we were pulling from each other, inspired from each other.

HissTank: It is basically a Classified book.

Lenny: Yeah it’s pretty cool. Josh is doing such a great job with that book and the writing, porting the designs back and forth, it’s cool to see. But I’m with you guys, I want to see some more.

Tony: Any time we can get more story telling, no matter what it is – comics, cartoons, video games, we want it.

HissTank: Ok, so I guess I’ll keep talking until they tell me to shut it (jokingly).

HissTank: So this, Ghost Viper, yo.

Lenny: You know, this is my favorite interview today (you know Lenny has a lot of favorites tho).

HissTank: Oh yeah?

Lenny: It’s so like, chill (laughs) (BS banter back and forth).

HissTank: Oh one other thing. Seems like there was a bit of a backlog, slow down with shipments this year. Is this clearing up, working itself out…

Tony: I just got about 30 Amazon notifications this week. If you want me to go down to the docks for you I will (laughter).

HissTank: Yeah that’s what I’m saying, me too. Bunch keep moving up, shipping, all at once.

Lenny: That’s out of our jurisdiction actually, we make em look pretty and… (laughter).

HissTank: And one more, very specific question I know you CAN answer – where is my Rattler?

Tony: Again, I got a shipping notice for that too yesterday. I’ve seen em through photography online, they’re coming.

HissTank: I know, that’s why I want mine (laughter).

(Editor’s note – it was here when I got home, sitting on my NEIGHBOR’S porch, thanks Fedex).

We want to thank the G.I. Joe team and Hasbro PR crew for hooking this up.  We’ll try to get the forums involved next go round to fill this out!
