Grab your bows and your besties — Hello Kitty is heading to the big screen for her first-ever feature film!
It’s been a long time coming, but the Sanrio sweetheart is finally getting the close-up she deserves. Hello Kitty will star in a new project from New Line Cinema and Warner Bros. Pictures Animation, set to hit theaters globally on July 21, 2028.
While most of the details remain under wraps, this heartwarming animated adventure will capture the same fashion, friendship, and feline fun families know and love from the franchise. Sanrio also licensed the film rights to other beloved characters — including Gudetama, My Melody, and Little Twin Stars — so who knows what other kawaii cuties might pop up at the premiere!
Leo Matsuda will direct the project, best known for his work as a story artist on Zootopia and Wreck-It Ralph. As for the script, the studio tapped Dana Fox, co-writer and executive producer of Wicked, to create the most recent draft.
We’ll learn more about the storyline and characters as the film’s 2028 release date approaches, but families can start prepping for the premiere now on Sanrio’s website.
