Read below for our spoiler-heavy review:
Picking up immediately after last weeks tense cliffhanger, Vanessa is rushed into surgery, her life hanging by a thread. The Kingpin is reduced to a desperate husband, barely restrained as doctors fight to save her. The tension is palpable, and the performance from Vincent DOnofrio shines as he embodies Fisks anguish and helplessness.
Officer Powell and the AVTF arrive to support Fisk, while Daniel Blake attempts to keep the press at bay, downplaying the severity of the situation. Vanessa survives surgery but remains unconscious, and Fisk waits anxiously at her bedside, determined she will recover. He orders Powell to bring Daredevil and Bullseye in alive if theyre found, setting the stage for a citywide manhunt.
Meanwhile, Daredevil and Bullseye have taken refuge in a restaurant kitchen, but Bullseye seems resigned to his fate, believing that some cosmic balance has been restored. Daredevil refuses to let Bullseye die, driven by his own need for redemption. The episode weaves their tense escape with the mounting chaos outside, as Fisks rage threatens to consume the city if Vanessa doesnt make it.
The hospital scenes continue to build on the emotional stakes. Blake meets with BB who pushes him for updates on Vanessas condition. Their interaction is brief but seemingly heartfelt, culminating in a hug that cuts through their tension.
Fisk is visited by the doctor, who emphasizes the precariousness of Vanessas situation but promises to do everything possible. The vulnerability from Fisk is strikinghes willing to do anything for his wife, showing a rare glimpse of the man behind the menace.
Flashbacks in this episode serve to enrich the character arcs and provide context for present-day events. Vanessas early days in the art gallery are explored, foreshadowing her connection with Fisk. We also see a pre-politician Kingpin and his former right-hand man James Wesley discussing ways to diversify his business. There are also poignant Matt and Foggy scenes highlighting their early legal careers and the moral dilemmas they faced. These moments flesh out the defining relationships and motivations of our main characters, making the present-day stakes feel even more tragic.
Daredevil and Bullseyes journey continues with Bullseyes health deteriorating. He grapples with guilt and questions Daredevil about Vanessas fate, tying his own survival to hers. Their exchange is raw, culminating in Daredevil choking Bullseye when Foggys name is mentioneda callback to their fraught history and Daredevils unresolved anger.
Back at the hospital, a news report about Vanessa is shown. This leads to a tense sequence with Daniel and Buck Cashman involving a trip to Albany and cryptic discussions about following orders and past traumas. Theres a definite Sopranos-vibe to their scenes which is obviously fun seeing Michael Gandolfini a part of.
In a pivotal scene, Daredevil brings Bullseye to Clinton Church, seeking sanctuary. Both know that if Vanessa dies, nowhere is safe from Kingpins wrath. The Seminarian offers shelter, but the AVTF storms the church, forcing Daredevil and Bullseye to strategize for escape. Bullseye, wracked with guilt over Foggys death, insists Daredevil leave him behind. Daredevil, torn between duty and emotion, briefly considers leaving Bullseye to his fate. But ultimately he flees with him to his hideout shocking a waiting Karen Page.
The episodes emotional crescendo arrives as Vanessa finally succumbs. Despite the doctors efforts, she flatlines, leaving Fisk devastated. The flashbacks throughout the episode underscore the loss and heartbreak with the final one to their very first scene from the original Daredevil series, completing the circle of their story.
This episode is full of tension, character development, and tragedy. Its unflinching in its depiction of loss, guilt, and the consequences of violence. With Vanessas death, the stakes for Kingpin, Daredevil, and Bullseye are higher than ever, setting the stage for a dramatic fallout in the episodes to come.

I didnt hate Elodie as Elektra either, and thought she actually did a good job. However there are dozens of actresses out there who would’ve been more suited to the part. The producers should really just follow the template they have for the likes of Kingpin, Vanessa- make it as close to the comic as they can. Those two are nearly perfectly cast for their roles, and it feels as if the writers enjoy bringing them to life. I’d prefer Elektra to be played by Katrina Law,Adria Arjona,Eiza Gonzlez, or…Joanna Fyllidou(!)
Adria Would actually be fantastic as Elektra, good call, I actually think she probably would have been there choice had it been a different time, since She’s already tied in with Disney being in Star Wars, But totally would be pretty perfect for Elektra, Eiza could be really great as well.

I thought this as well, the Elektra theory, truly I actually didn’t hate Elodie as Elektra, I did kinda hate how they did the character though, but they can fix that up, given the right writing and direction they can redeem her, although I also don’t really remember her potryal as Eleketra either since it was when the previous episodes released was the last time I saw her.

Wow. That looks violent. I mean, it’s the Punisher, I expect that, but still…
they aren’t given away anything in this trailer. Good.
Loved that we finally got to see Swordsman in action! Hopefully he gets a suit and joins the Defenders or something. Maybe we’ll even get a figure one day. A very glaring hole in my Avengers lineups.

Season 2 Ep1 Thoughts SPOILERS AHEAD.
Just a quick addition. Firstly, fantastic first episode, I am a sucker for “sexy sexy” political thriller, with little seeds planted here and there. Good use of PTSD but the elephant in the room and the inevitability is that we’re going to get Elektra in this (hopefully recast cos Ellody was awful, sorry). The ship operators being Greek and the Greek restaurant helping folk is all a nod to Elektra’s coming. Also like to add, as a Greek, I enjoyed hearing the language lol. Some were solid, others were clearly not familiar with Greek but applaud the effort

I have a strong feeling we will see everyone from the Defenders return eventually, with no re-casting, because even finn jones is rumoured, as long as they can write and direct them better, then that’s fine, I already really apperciated they did so much better with Finn in Iron Fist S2.

There’s rumors of Finn ones coming back. If they do that, you can pretty much count on coming back, too. No matter how bad she was as Elektra.
Face Front, True Believers! Fantastic episode. FINALLY we get the DD on his suit. Its gonna look good in red, for now black is fine. I am concerned how they’re gonna explain why Kingpin hasn’t exposed Daredevil’s secret identity (yet). And what a topical theme, given what we’re going in real life right now. Also where are the other heroes? Will we find out? Cant wait for more episodes! Let’s Level With Daredevil!
‘Nuff Said!!
