Wolverine Assembles The New Avengers While Cap And Doom Fight For Their Souls As Armageddon Rages On
This summer, Earths Mightiest Heroes assemble for a battle that will define their next era in AVENGERS: ARMAGEDDON! The five-issue event series by superstar writer Chip Zdarsky and acclaimed artists Delio Diaz and Frank Alpizar launches in June, and today, fans can learn about issue #3, on sale in August, which teases the teams new post-Armageddon lineup.

AVENGERS: ARMAGEDDON shakes up the Avengers in a way not seen since Avengers: Disassembled, kicking off when the team assembles to stop Thaddeus Thunderbolt Ross, A.K.A. Red Hulk, from igniting a global conflict following his takeover of Latveria. The saga is currently being set up in Zdarskys hit run of Captain America as well as the Wolverine: Weapons of Armageddon limited series which follows Wolverine and Dave Colton, a new Captain America introduced in Zdarskys run, as they team up to dismantle an all-new super soldier program. Along the way, the pair will unleash a mysterious power originating from another universe that will shift the tide of the coming battle with Rossbut at a heavy cost.

CIVILIANS RIOT, VILLAINS RISE AND HEROES FALL!

The entire globe is thrown into chaos in AVENGERS: ARMAGEDDON #3. With the rest of the world turning against the Avengers, what will they choose? Stand down or fight against Red Hulk, even as he seems more and more unbeatable? And when an unstable new power takes center stagethe Avengers and the world will need all the help they can get! Wolverine sends out the call: AVENGERS ASSEMBLE!

Meanwhile, the next arc of CAPTAIN AMERICA serves a companion to the event, continuing in CAPTAIN AMERICA #14 with art by Ton Lima. The story sees Captain America, desperate to return to Earth to stop Armageddon, teaming up with Doctor Doom to acquire a weapon powerful enough to defeat their captor: Mephisto!

A SOUL FOR A SOUL

In CAPTAIN AMERICA #14, Captain America and Victor Von Doom, bound together in an unfamiliar war zone, are after the ANTIDIVINE a sword powerful enough to destroy Mephisto. But someone else also has their eyes on the weapon! Can Steve stop Dooms first love from destroying Victor as his own soul hangs in the balance?

No, he doesn’t. His ongoing series ended in December, with issue #16. Since then, Sam Wilson currently has a five-issue mini-series, featuring Red Hulk, (Big surprise there, right? Gotta make the comics resemble the MCU, to try to give the film some momentum. Yuck.) which carries Steve Rogers Legacy Numbering on its covers. Until this announcement was made yesterday, Steve Rogers was without a book of his own, and presumably would have been, until further notice. Even with this announcement, it’s going to be a six month gap between his ongoing series, since this new book doesn’t begin until July.

It’s about damn time they finally announce a new series. It’s ludicrous for Steve Rogers to not have a Captain America title of his own on the shelves. They gave Steve’s Legacy Numbering to Sam Wilson (again) for a stupid mini-series that ties into the MCU. They took away his book, and they’ve also had him off of the Avengers roster for two years, now. Steve Rogers is not some D-list background character that should be sitting on the bench. Hopefully, this new book will carry his Legacy Numbers on the cover, as it should be, and they can finally tone down the Sam Wilson Cap stuff, now that his movie will soon be in the rear-view mirror.

Captain America was presumed KIA, he wouldn’t need to “re-enlist”. I’m always leery of these ret-cons (his first time meeting Dr. Doom) because they’re rarely handled well and they tend to conflict with the established continuity. If they want to explore Cap’s interactions after being thawed, they could address his brain damage (amnesia) issues (recall that when he and the Avengers first encountered the Sub-Mariner, neither recognized the other from their days as All Winners Squad), and no doubt how the then-current SHIELD/military would have been concentrating on replicating the Super Soldier Serum from Cap’s blood, more than anything else.

I want Zdarsky on X-men to wash the stink of Hickman from it

Looking forward to a new writer. I’ve been getting the series, and there is some cool stuff going on, but overall I’m pretty bored with the story. The pace is slow. It’s weird for a Cap title to pile up in my “to read” stack, and I think I’m about 4 or 5 back with it. So a fresh take will be welcome. Plus I feel like Chip is underrated. Him and Gerry Duggan. They come on a title with very little fanfare and almost always make it better imo.

*when is there gonna be a Cap 4 thread?…I thought it was a lot better than what I was expecting walking in.
