In The Wake Of Armageddon, Earth’s Mightiest Survivors Assemble In Avengers #1
This November, superstar creators Chip Zdarsky and Marco Checchetto reunite to launch a trailblazing new run of AVENGERS! The new ongoing series spins out of Avengers: Armageddon, the five-issue limited series by Zdarsky, Delio Diaz and Frank Alpizar launching next week, which brings Earths Mightiest Heroes into a dramatically transformed Marvel Universe. Now, Earth itself needs to be avenged! A bold lineup of heroesa mix of legendary Avengers, proven mainstays and wildcard newcomersassemble to protect a broken world that has more reason than ever not to trust them. Once again, the Avengers take center stage in Marvel Comics storytelling, and it all starts here!

EARTHS MIGHTIEST SURVIVORS!

With the world order completely rewritten after the events of Avengers: Armageddon, a day unlike any other arrives, when a new group of Earths Mightiest Heroes find themselves united to avenge the Marvel Universe: SPIDER-MAN, WOLVERINE, CAPTAIN MARVEL, DAREDEVIL, LUKE CAGE and an all-new hero set to make their explosive debut soon!

On taking the reins of Marvels flagship super hero team, Zdarsky said, Its obviously a massive honor getting to write the worlds greatest super hero team! And after what happens in AVENGERS: ARMAGEDDON, this lineup is angry as hell and ready to avenge.

“AVENGERS is a book that should lead the Marvel Universe, where big things happen and surprises keep hitting, he explained. Thats what Marco and I are doing with every issue and I cant wait for people to fall in love with these gorgeous pages.”

On reuniting with Zdarsky, Checchetto said, “Here we go again. Chip and I, assembled. We had a blast on Daredevil, and since wrapping up Ultimate Spider-Man, Im thrilled there was an opportunity to do something new with him. Its in moments like these where Chips utter madness comes through, and the result is right before your eyes.

“I love this team, he continued. Its going to be great to see these characters interact with one another and see how they untangle themselves from the situations were going to throw them into.

Its amazing to be working with Marco again, Zdarsky added. Time and time again he proves hes the best at giving us the coolest possible versions of these characters and what hes doing in this book is next level.”

Teasing the new run, Editor Wil Moss said, Chip and Marco have come up with SUCH an exciting direction for this new volume of AVENGERS, striking just the right balance of quality AND spectacle, of pitch-perfect characterization AND shocking takes, of a sense of legacy AND a true trailblazing spirit. Chip and Marcos AVENGERS is going to be the heart of the Marvel Universe going forwardtrust me, you wont want to miss a beat. Just wait till you learn the full roster

AVENGERS #1 will be the next Marvel Comics launch available in True Believers Blind Bags, each containing an exclusive variant cover not available for regular orderingincluding one-of-a-kind, hand drawn sketch covers by surprise contributors! Hurm. I’m confused why Wolverine is such a big part of this story. Doesn’t he have his own mutant problems to worry about?

No, he doesn’t. His ongoing series ended in December, with issue #16. Since then, Sam Wilson currently has a five-issue mini-series, featuring Red Hulk, (Big surprise there, right? Gotta make the comics resemble the MCU, to try to give the film some momentum. Yuck.) which carries Steve Rogers Legacy Numbering on its covers. Until this announcement was made yesterday, Steve Rogers was without a book of his own, and presumably would have been, until further notice. Even with this announcement, it’s going to be a six month gap between his ongoing series, since this new book doesn’t begin until July.

Steve has a current ongoing series right now.

It’s about damn time they finally announce a new series. It’s ludicrous for Steve Rogers to not have a Captain America title of his own on the shelves. They gave Steve’s Legacy Numbering to Sam Wilson (again) for a stupid mini-series that ties into the MCU. They took away his book, and they’ve also had him off of the Avengers roster for two years, now. Steve Rogers is not some D-list background character that should be sitting on the bench. Hopefully, this new book will carry his Legacy Numbers on the cover, as it should be, and they can finally tone down the Sam Wilson Cap stuff, now that his movie will soon be in the rear-view mirror.

Captain America was presumed KIA, he wouldn’t need to “re-enlist”. I’m always leery of these ret-cons (his first time meeting Dr. Doom) because they’re rarely handled well and they tend to conflict with the established continuity. If they want to explore Cap’s interactions after being thawed, they could address his brain damage (amnesia) issues (recall that when he and the Avengers first encountered the Sub-Mariner, neither recognized the other from their days as All Winners Squad), and no doubt how the then-current SHIELD/military would have been concentrating on replicating the Super Soldier Serum from Cap’s blood, more than anything else.

I want Zdarsky on X-men to wash the stink of Hickman from it

Looking forward to a new writer. I’ve been getting the series, and there is some cool stuff going on, but overall I’m pretty bored with the story. The pace is slow. It’s weird for a Cap title to pile up in my “to read” stack, and I think I’m about 4 or 5 back with it. So a fresh take will be welcome. Plus I feel like Chip is underrated. Him and Gerry Duggan. They come on a title with very little fanfare and almost always make it better imo.

*when is there gonna be a Cap 4 thread?…I thought it was a lot better than what I was expecting walking in.
