COSI’s Latest Exhibit Introduces Families to the Science Behind Pixar

Movies might seem like magic, but there’s a science to storytelling. This fall, Pixar Animation Studios is opening a new exhibit at Ohio’s Center of Science and Industry (COSI) to show families how artistry, problem-solving, and technology combine to create their favorite films.

Created by the Museum of Science, The Science Behind Pixar exhibit shows families how math, science, and creativity combine to make a movie magical. The exhibit walks visitors through every step of Pixar’s production process with hands-on activities inspired by its wealth of classic films. With behind-the-scenes secrets and photo ops, fans of all ages will discover how art and science work together. The exhibit opens at COSI on Oct. 11 and will run through May 25, 2026.

As they explore the 10,000 square-foot space, kids can participate in interactive games, watch video interviews with the Pixar production team, and experience how science and creativity intersect at every step of filmmaking. Each challenge offers kids a firsthand look at the problem-solving and STEAM concepts Pixar animators use every day, from experimenting with undersea lighting in Finding Nemo to finding the perfect bug’s-eye-view camera angle for A Bug’s Life. Families might even come face-to-face with some of their favorite characters, like Buzz Lightyear, Dory, Mike and Sulley, Edna Mode, and WALL-E!

The Science Behind Pixar exhibit will open at COSI on Oct. 11 and run through May 25, 2026. For tickets and information, visit cosi.org/pixar
