A mix of retrospectives and reviews offer enthusiasts a look at reissued classics and emerging collectibles.
This week’s toy coverage presents a nostalgic look back at some classic toys, as well as the emergence of new figures and series that pay homage to past inspirations.
Retro Figures: A Nod to Classics
The release of vintage-inspired action figures and cases brings a wave of nostalgia. The Power of the Force 2 C-3PO Figure Case allows collectors to store 3.75″ Star Wars figures in a case reminiscent of Kenner’s original line. The case, known for its vac-metal finish and extra features like lighted eyes and voice functions, is ideal for those with a fondness for the retro Star Wars universe.
Meanwhile, lesser-known pieces like the Bully’s 1989 Batman action figure intrigue with their mysterious origins, speculated as bootlegs or forgotten mass-market items. It’s a figure that might not win on quality but certainly peaks curiosity.
Emerging Heroes in Toy Buy-ins
On the new release front, Formo Toys’ Warriors of the Galaxy series continues to expand. Their figures, such as Spikes and Ygg, offer articulated play similar to the beloved MOTU Origins figures while introducing fresh characters to collectors.
Fans of the fantasy genre have more to look forward to with Boss Fight Studio’s Conan and Red Sonja figures. These figures cater to collectors who appreciate detailed craftsmanship and an ’80s throwback style, appealing especially to enthusiasts of sword-and-sorcery tales.
Spotlight on Tokusatsu: Forticus
Tokusatsu enthusiasts have a new gem in “Forticus: Stream! The Heirs to Their Favourite Hero.” Celebrating the tenth anniversary of the Toei Tokusatsu Fan Club, this one-off special marks a rich addition for fans of the genre, which often melds dramatic storytelling with elaborate costumes. By highlighting this milestone, it not only rekindles love for past series but also introduces a fresh hero to the pantheon of henshin warriors.
BUZZmod Line Expands with Cyberpunk Edgerunners
Finally, the BUZZmod series, known for its detailed anime figures, expands with BUZZmod Rebecca from Cyberpunk Edgerunners. Hot on the heels of Lucy, Rebecca’s arrival assures fans of fast continuity in this line, with other key figures expected soon. For aficionados of the anime, this marks a much-anticipated inclusion, especially as competition from Jada Toys lags behind.
Whether you’re indulging in the classics or gathering the latest heroes, this week’s updates offer something for every collector’s taste.
