I have made three more small vehicular purchases in the last week and thought I would share them with you.
The first being a Dinky Stripey The Magic Mini from the weird 1960s Candy children’s comic series which used staged photographs of life sized dummies of Candy and her brother Andy together with Pandas Mr and Mrs Bearanda and a real Mini with a stripey paint job!
It must have been very popular back in the day because they Dinky Minis still sell very well. Mine has clearly been enjoyed by several people over the last six decades, it came to me in an auction lot so dividing cars by cost it set me back £3.77 so that can’t be bad.
Car number two is a very modern Matchbox Mercedes G Class in matt blue paint which was sitting loose on a charity shop shelf for £2 which is probably more than it cost when it was new and still in it’s packaging but I just liked it and not many shops sell new Matchbox in my area anyway.
Number three was in a locked cabinet in an antiques shop in Wales. I usually don’t purchase anything out of a cabinet in those places because that is where the wildly overpriced items are kept but this Dinky Beetle caught my eye as it was in RAF blue with spun hubs and white tyres and when I saw the tag said £15 I was pleasantly surprised so that has been added to my Beetle section.
This leads me to pose a question to the assembled crowd of readers, three is still a crowd right?
Does anyone know when Dinky started using white tyres as I have several Beetles and American cars like Studebaker Golden Hawks and Nash Ramblers which have white tyres on both painted wheels and on the later spun hubs so when did they start and finish and why were they only on certain models.
