Big Bad Workshop and Fresh Monkey Fiction's Operation: Monster Force line impresses with new Lovecraftian figure.
This week in action figures, the focus lies on the chilling and creatively inspired releases fitting for the Halloween season, particularly from the Operation: Monster Force line, while Jazwares brings in some lighthearted horror and Funko continues to celebrate pop culture history.
Operation: Monster Force Brings Lovecraftian Horror
The most significant update comes from Big Bad Workshop and Fresh Monkey Fiction, who continue to expand their niche following with the Operation: Monster Force line. A highlight is the newly unveiled Ambassador R’lyeh, a Cthulhu-inspired figure that brings the mythical terrors of H.P. Lovecraft into the toy domain (Action Figure Barbecue). This figure is part of the broader “Forgotten King’s army,” a theme that hints at an exciting narrative weaving through the series. With intricate design capturing the essence of the Cthulhu legend, the Ambassador is a standout of the third season and promises to be a must-have for collectors fascinated by eldritch horror and strategic storytelling in collectible formats.
Jazwares Enters Halloween with Michael Myers Squishmallow
Meanwhile, in a lighter take on horror, Jazwares has launched the Michael Myers Squishmallow, offering a cute and unexpectedly soft take on the classic horror icon (Action Figure Barbecue). While it blurs the line between terror and charm, this release capitalizes on Squishmallows’ continuing popularity, especially among younger audiences. Michael Myers as a collectable plush speaks volumes on the cultural endurance of iconic horror figures, even if the context is more cuddly than chilling.
Funko Releases Mars Attacks! Martian Spy Girl
Funko keeps up with its tradition of embracing eclectic cultural references with its Funko POP! Movies #1876, featuring the Martian Spy Girl from “Mars Attacks!” (She’s Fantastic). This figure dives into nostalgic 90s cinema and reflects Funko’s ability to tap into a wide variety of fanbases with specialty figures. Despite some critique regarding the details of her tearaway face, there’s a nostalgic allure for fans of the campy sci-fi film, making it a memorable addition to any Funko collection.
Overall, these releases define a period rich with thematic variety, from imaginative narratives inspired by iconic horror to playful interpretations of classic characters. For collectors, each offers a unique addition that plays onto different aspects of pop culture and mythological storytelling.
